Chief Economist at PLASTICS

Perc Pineda is currently the Chief Economist of the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS). He is PLASTICS’ primary expert on economics, statistics, and industry research. Since joining PLASTICS in 2017, he has conducted business sentiment surveys, produced forecasts and reports, and enhanced industry data dissemination to PLASTICS’ members. His views on the economy and the plastics industry have been quoted in the media, and research and insights have been published in peer-reviewed economic and trade journals. Before joining PLASTICS, Perc Pineda was the Senior Economist of the Credit Union National Association, where he tracked macroeconomic trends, conducted economic research, wrote articles for industry publications, and interfaced with the media. He was briefly the Chief Economist and Vice President of Research of the American Financial Services Association. His experience includes academia, international financial institution, and trade association work. As an economics professor, he taught macroeconomics at St. Francis College in New York, NY, and microeconomics, finance, and economics of regulations and the law at the City University of New York. Before a stint in academia, he was at the International Monetary Fund. Perc Pineda received his PhD and MPhil in Economics from the New School of Social Research in New York, NY. He also holds an MA in Economics from the American University in Washington, D.C., and a Master’s in International Management from the University of Maryland. He is a member of the National Association of Business Economist and a panelist of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s survey of professional forecasters.
